You know the whole, Adopt and you'll get pregnant thing...

My husband and I love Netflix and the other day we got "Did You Hear About the Morgan's". We watched it last night and it was pretty good. It wasn't the best movie ever, but I liked it. It touched a little on their infertility and the thought of adoption. If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to know the ended then you might want to skip this post....

A the end it shows the couple with their newly adopted (Chinese) daughter. Then it reviles, the wife's pregnant! Can I just say, I HATE THAT! Everyone is convinced that once we adopt I'll end up pregnant! Ha ha ha, that would be great, but never gonna happen! The King of Queens series finally ended the same exact way. Just the other day my husbands co-worker told him, "Watch you guys will adopt Emma and your wife will get pregnant!"

So thank you media to adding to that stigma of "adopt and you'll get pregnant"!

When people tell me about so and so that adopted and got pregnant, I like to tell them a few different things.
Yes, I know they did. But for every couple that adopts and then gets pregnant, I can name 10 couples that adopted and didn't get pregnant. I'm sure their pregnancy was a miracle, but they are still a mom just as much to their adoptive child as to their biological child.
Or my personal favorite is, "Well sex can result in pregnancy. You don't stop having sex just because you think you can't get pregnant."

ahh, i hate this too. we've been TTC for 2.5 years and i can't stand it when someone says, just consider adoption and then you'll get pregnant. so frustrating.

We watched that movie over the weekend and HATED it for that exact reason! Me and my two brothers were adopted and my parents never got pregnant. In fact my parents had to wait 14 years to adopt me and my brother. I'm sick of hearing people say this or other demeaning comments.

Ugh. I have never had the desire to see "Did You Hear about the Morgans?" but I do remember that King of Queens episode.

I think the worst thing someone ever said to me was (after telling me about so-and-so that got pregnant after adopting) "So, don't give up!"

As if adoption was giving up. And she said that while I was sitting there with my baby.
