Um...

My husband had to go drop something off to someone in our old ward. I waited in the car and he went to the door and ended up going in. I knew it was gonna be a while before coming back out so I went in too. I've know this family for over 3 years and they have 5 kids. As we were about to leave Sis. X told me that they could use us back in the ward. I asked, Why is it dwindling in numbers? Her answer, no we have tons of people but everyone either is pregnant or has new babies. We could use people that don't have kids! We were 1 of 2 couples in that ward who didn't have kids. The other couple always made it a point to say they were NOT trying either. In our new ward I can't count how many couples are childless, thank heavens for newly wed wards! Although when we first moved in ALL the old ladies asked me, are you a newly wed? No, 5 years. Oh, why don't you have kids?

Um, gee thanks for pointing that out! I wouldn't say that it bugged me, but really? Could someone honestly think that being childless is EASY and we enjoy it? I love the calling I have now and I KNOW I can serve it with or without children. There are many woman who serve callings while pregnant and have new born's. I find it a blessing sometimes that yes I serve more because of my childless-ness. Over a week ago on my blog I wrote, "When I was at my friends's I realized that I was grateful that I don't have kids, because then I wouldn't be able to help her." I guess what I'm getting at is, I love my life as it is, I'm grateful for moments of being childless. I can't wait for the day I'm a mom for good. I hope I can serve and help as I do now when we have little ones.

Ouch. I can't believe they said that! And why would a ward need more couples with less children? That makes no sense.
I'm sorry you had to experience that. I'm sure she meant well, but it still stings.

Gotta love those well-intentioned comments! :) Thanks for adding us to your list and good luck in the search for your baby! It's wonderful to make new connections online with other couples who understand!
